'The first course on Anatomy Applied to Aesthetic Medicine has been a great success'.

This is what the general director of EIMEC, Dr. Zainela Laborde, tells us. We talked to her to find out more about CAAME.

How did this course come about?

CAAME was born out of the need to broaden and deepen the knowledge of facial anatomy of professionals working in Aesthetic Medicine. The possibility of consolidating theoretical and practical knowledge with anatomical knowledge.

What does it offer us and what makes it different from the other EIMEC training courses?

This course refreshes the most important facial anatomical structures that are applied in aesthetic medicine and it is very important to know the anatomical variations in any case of complication. The fact that we work on a fresh cadaver allows us not only to practice the techniques in all facial thirds and tackle the most complicated areas such as the periocular area for example, but also to get to know in a practical way the structures under the skin.

At the beginning of the course, the students are given a test to check their degree of anatomical knowledge and another test at the end of the course; there has really been a notable change in all the doctors attending, with very high final scores. This is where the success of this course lies, in the certainty that the facial anatomical knowledge necessary to apply the techniques in Aesthetic Medicine has been consolidated.

Is there a lot of practice in the course?

CAAME applies the EIMEC method of learning: 90% practice, one tutor for every three students. The small groups allow each and every student to practice until they become confident with the techniques. At CAAME in particular, we start with a short theoretical review, work on vascular anatomical drawing on real patients and finally practice the different techniques on fresh cadaver specimens.

Is it a unique course in Barcelona?

I could say that it is a unique course for several reasons, one for its unique methodology, the EIMEC method; we also have as a teacher, among others, the prestigious Dr. Mirapeix, RM. MD, PhD. Professor of Human Anatomy and Human Embryology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with deep knowledge and experience in the field of clinical anatomy; and it is also unique for being held exclusively in the morphological and anatomical sciences rooms of the famous Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Finally, this 2022 CAAME has been one of EIMEC’s commitments to excellence in training. Two calls were programmed and it seems that in the second call, to be held in September, there are no more places left. Are there any plans to open a third call for this year?

There is only one place left for September, but applications are open for 2023, although the dates are still to be determined.
