First issue of the new scientific journal EIMEC Scientific
The first issue of the new scientific journal EIMEC Scientific, Advances in Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery, is now available.
The aim of Eimec Scientific is to offer professionals in the field of Aesthetic Medicine and dermatology a place to publish all the scientific information, complications and any innovations that they generate throughout their years as professionals in these disciplines.’
We spoke to one of the journal’s editors-in-chief and EIMEC studies coordinator, Dr. Paula Pifarré, about how the journal came into being.
The project to create a journal arose mainly from the lack of scientifically based information available on complications related to the practice of aesthetic medicine. During the COVID19 pandemic, we started to detect some complications among people who had recently been vaccinated or had passed the disease and some aesthetic treatments, but we could not find reliable and contrastable information to learn and improve clinical practice. In a meeting with the scientific team of EIMEC, we detected this lack and the need to scientifically support every procedure or observation we made in the world of aesthetic medicine. It was then that we proposed to a group of medical specialists linked to the school the option of launching a magazine that collects all this information at national and international level. We firmly believe in the content and scientific rigour of our articles, which is why we have a panel of expert reviewers in the different areas of knowledge that we publish in our journal, from different parts of the world, who evaluate each article thoroughly.’
What format does it have?
EIMEC Scientific is an open access peer-reviewed online journal, we have just published the first issue, but we are already preparing the second volume. The original idea is to launch a volume every 4 months, and that each volume will consist of 8 or 10 articles.
What do you have to do to publish?
To publish at the moment you have to send the manuscript following the guidelines of the journal by mail. It can be any type of article, whether it is an original article, a review, a case report or a report of several cases, as well as a short communication or a letter to the editor. We are open to any scientific initiative that meets our ethical and innovation standards.
What is the relationship between the magazine and EIMEC?
We also like to give the most outstanding students of our school the opportunity to get started in scientific publishing. For this purpose we always select 4 or 5 research papers within our expert course and guide them in many cases to their first publication. In the future, publishing in the journal will have a cost, but during this year, the 3 volumes that will be issued are financed by EIMEC, in order to give visibility and opportunity to everyone to publish.
